I grew up on sultana butter cake. It was a packet mix but I loved it. I started searching for a recipe for this cake months ago and have just stumbled across this delicious recipe and made it today.
I do not cook with sugar at all anymore but have some in the cupboard for special occasions. This cake does require sugar but I put less in that the recipe requires and it is still very sweet. Next time I will use even less. The almond meal gives it a really yummy crust; it tastes very much like a friand (& I love those!)
I never seem to have a treat to enjoy with a cup of tea so this is a winner for me!
